Programme of the course
Module I Introduction (1 day):
Introduction of the participants and the trainers, ice-breaking sessions;
Life span psychology: physical ageing, cognitive process, social aspects;
Europe - the greying society: worldwide situation, trends, developments;
Module II Characteristics of language learning senior citizens (2 day):
Perception about older learners: participants' experiences with senior learners, motivation of senior learners;
Learning environments: new learning settings, new learning places;
Module II Challenges for teaching languages to senior and tools for solution (3 day)
Social aspects of teaching senior learners, empowerment by biographical work, raing self-esteem;
Module III Put into practice - specific challenges of delivering languages courses in theory and practice (3 and 4 day)
Vocabulary, grammar, speaking skills, reading skills, learning strategies;
Evaluation of the participants' achievements;
Summary (5 day)
Study visit: cultural event/visiting institution providing further education for senior learners;
Evaluation of the course.
